The talk is now becoming a fairytale, for 3rd time President Jacob Zuma on his State of the Nation address (SONA) mentioned that Mpumalanga province will commence with the university building. There is no higher institution of learning that is in full ownership by the province, except for Tshwane University of technology’s satellite campuses that does not accommodate quarter of Mpumalanga matriculants.
I am starting to doubt president Zuma’ words and the minister of higher education Dr. Blade Nzimande that they did not commit themselves much into making sure that the project is implemented on recorded time as promised to us residents of the province.
I have a question but I don’t know who I can direct to, “During SONA there is budget allocated for such projects, where does the money go to if they fail to implement?
I am hoping for better 2012, to seeing change about the project to avoid kids all wanting to go to Gauteng for better education and not to see a repetition of what happened at the University of Johannesburg where a student had to lose a parent during registration ……. We have a right to education so must be able to access it.
I think the issue of higher education is not really taken serious and how do they think provinces will be develop if they do not have tertiary instituations within their areas.
